About This Spot
Stepping onto the grounds of Big R in Florala feels like a gentle return to simpler times, where the rhythms of the day slow down enough to savor both good company and good food. Nestled among the trees beside a welcoming RV park, this spot carries a relaxed, homey vibe that invites visitors to settle in, whether they’re just passing through or looking to linger a while.
The unpretentious atmosphere here is fostered by a familiar kind of warmth — the sort that comes from a friendly smile behind the counter or a server who remembers your name. The setting feels laid-back but attentive, with the steady hum of conversation blending with the subtle sounds of the countryside beyond. It’s the kind of place where you come with an appetite not just for a meal, but for a shared slice of the local way of life.
Food at Big R is an embrace of classic Southern comfort, confident and straightforward without fuss. The buffet offers hearty, satisfying options that speak of tradition — think of dishes prepared with care and a nod to the flavors locals have cherished for generations. There’s a comforting familiarity to the lineup, but also a sense of genuine attention when something special, like fresh-cooked mullet, can be arranged on request.
This is the kind of place where the food feels like a welcome invitation to pause and connect — from crispy hushpuppies that arrive piping hot to soulful sides that carry the season with them. The presence of a ribeye sandwich on the menu hints at variety, subtly broadening the experience beyond expectations.
Big R’s charm goes beyond the plate. The steady, friendly service contributes to its easy-going pace, encouraging guests to take their time and enjoy the small human moments — a shared laugh, a quiet conversation, or the simple pleasure of a warm meal after a day’s journey. It’s a spot where people come not just to eat but to feel rooted, even if just for an afternoon.

Service and food was good and plentiful, but I have never went to a buffet with fried chicken and fish that didn't have potatoes or fries.

This place is now called Summers Country Kitchen. Best go by their reviews.

Great food but always the same things on the buffet. Fried chicken, fried pork chops and fried fish. They actually had baked chicken the last time I was there so hopefully they will start having a better variety. All in all it's a good place to eat.

We saw the buffet and asked if they had any mullet. Our server, Rebecca, said not on the buffet, but she could ask if Summer would cook some up for us. She did, and it was very good. We also liked the coleslaw, greens, okra, and pumpkin pie. Very friendly and attentive staff!

COUNTRY COOKING!! If you are looking for a “home cooked” country meal - this place hits the spot. Good recipes and a lunch buffet where you can sample all your favorites.
